“It is simply ridiculous to say that people have been smashing windows, rioting and looting because of government policy“
Deranged, deluded and not fit for office.

Clegg is but a doodle –
Isn’t he a noodle?
Being so unclued’ll
Show him as a POODLE
And to what his ‘crew’ did –
Looking like a ‘new kid’
Took a shaft from Cupid,
Fell in love with STUPID!

What is so depressing about the recent riots is the rush of government ministers to dismiss the whole matter as simple criminal behaviour largely resulting from gang culture. Such a simplistic analysis conveniently avoids the need for a deeper understanding of the motivations of those involved and what role, if any, successive government policies may have played in the process
Equally depressing is Cameron’s ill-thought out proposals on dealing with those found guilty of participation in the riots and looting that followed – turf them out of council housing, but not just them, their families too ? How exactly does making a law-abiding family with young children – who played no part in the riots – homeless because one member of the family rioted, help the situation in any way ?
And as to the proposal that access to social media sites and signals to cell-phones should be blocked to prevent rioters using those services to outwit the police in some future riot situation, Cameron can stick that idea up his arse. I live only a few miles away from one of the areas of Birmingham that saw riots. If similar riots happen in the future and companies have bowed to government pressure to block cell phones in that area then how are innocent folk living in that area supposed to contact family or emergency services if an urgent need should arise ?
There was rightful condemnation of corrupt arab leaders cutting internet and cell phone services when pro-democracy demonstrators took to the streets. Now it seems our inept and corrupt government is only too eager to employ the same tactics

As per usual I agree with you Duncan. It’s very difficult to tell the difference between President Assad, Colonel Gadaffi and David Cameron these days.

And the day may come when decent (italics – why doesn’t WordPress enable use of emphasis?) people need to use these communication facilities to organise revolt against a really (i…) totalitarian regime.
Maybe next year….?
