The Don Done Good

Trump’s two great skills have always been bragging and bullying. He’s used them both to great effect in Israel. Bullying was what Netanyahu needed and it was probably only Trump who could do it.
So while it does stick in my throat a little, I say thank you and pay him due respect for stopping the slaughter. I have grave fears that Netanyahu will yet find excuses to start the killing again but perhaps he will be in fear of upsetting Trump and will restrain himself.
Now the priority must be to maintain the peace but then to bring Netanyahu, some members of his government and the IDF to justice. This must also apply to some members of Hamas if they are still alive.
Providing the peace lasts, soon enough Trump’s attention will wander but the rest of the world must remain steadfast. If Netanyahu travels to any country other than the USA he must be arrested and sent to the Hague to stand trial.
Has Israel Extinguished Its Own ‘Right To Exist’? Is Palestine the One State Solution?
I have always been an ardent supporter of Israel’s right to exist but it may have gone too far this time to be allowed to continue as part of the community of nations. Palestine, Islam and Arabs have never been as great a threat to Israel as its own disgusting conduct. Truly it has been sowing the seeds of its own destruction for many years.
Perhaps the two state solution is now irredeemably lost. Perhaps the world must now support a one state solution, the state of Palestine, a place where Arab, Jew, Muslim, Christian and secular people can live together in peace. God knows, Israel has the done the most awful job with the opportunity we entrusted it.
The Bloody Sunday Inquiry
A dreadful set of conclusions. An appalling injustice. A masterful performance by David Cameron. It goes a long way to restore some faith in British justice after too many examples of it failing miserably.
Where from here? Justice must be seen to be done which means that the families of those who were murdered are entitled to expect charges to be brought. They are also entitled to damages from the British government.
This makes me ashamed of those who lost control on that terrible day 38 years ago. It also makes me proud of my country that, eventually, justice has been done.
Truth is often best revealed through art. I have always thought that the film “In the Name Of The Father” illustrates so well some of the evil and injustice that was perpetrated on the people of Northern Ireland.
In the end, Northern Ireland is a wonderful story of the triumph of good over evil and hope over despair. Bloody Sunday is a terrible episode in this story. Today those who fought for justice are vindicated and triumphant. Those who died are heroes and martyrs to the peace that we now enjoy. God bless them.
