BBC Staff Display Rudeness And Ignorance Towards HM The Queen

with 6 comments

bbc newsroom

I have seen nothing so shameful, crass and ignorant as the behaviour of staff in the BBC newsroom during the Queen’s visit today.

I saw not one bow, curtsey, nor even a bow of the head as Her Majesty passed by.  Instead, in vulgar and embarrassing fashion virtually everyone was pointing their mobile phone, gawping, intruding, forgetting themselves. ‘Chav’ seems the perfect moniker for such individuals.

If this is the behaviour of well educated people at the world’s leading news organisation at the pinnacle of British cultural life then we are sadly diminished.

  4. It’s a sign of the times, mate.

People feel a need to record absolutely everything on their phones. I’m no sociologist or psychologist, but it strikes me that there seems to be a credibility gap somewhere; in which folk seem to assume that no-one will believe them regarding any given happening if they can’t produce video evidence of it.

On the other hand, maybe they’re just rubbernecking chavs.

    Off with their heads!

No – hold on, let me get my camera first. Honest, Jim, you’ll never believe what’s just happened to my mate from work. He got his head lopped off by some twat wearing a leather hood. Here, watch this…..

  5. To be fair, Peter, I suspect that any staff to whom the Queen paid attention herself would probably have responded politely. I wouldn’t call myself a Royalist, but on the one occasion when I bumped into HM The Queen Mother (her corgis came barking at me when i was cycling near her home) I was suitable respectful and full of “Ma’am”s. Bowing didn’t quite seem appropriate when discussing salmon while astride a mountain bike, however. But had I merely seen Her Majesty at a distance when she was otherwise occupied, I would probably have behaved as the BBC staff did. And why not? The royal family make considerable efforts to try to bridge the gap between them and the common people, to emphasise shared nationality and humanity rather than different social rank. At the Braemlar Highland Games, anyone presented to the Queen will incline the head, or curtsey, with the best of them. The thousands of spectators do not, however, feel obliged to fall on their faces when the royal motorcade passes. She’s;Queen Elizabeth I & II, not the Emperor Nero.

  6. You cant support equality and monarchy at the same time. Mrs Windsor is just a public sector worker who isn’t subject to a pay-freeze and has considerably better T & C’s.
