An Unaffordable Prejudice – A Report To The Home Affairs Committee Concerning The Cannabis Laws

with 13 comments

Probably the worst part of becoming leader of Cannabis Law Reform (CLEAR) has been learning how to deal with the abuse and vitriolic jealousy that has been directed at me.

In fact it started even before my election when I set up the British Medicinal Cannabis Register (BMCR).  Immediately, some individuals accused me of being an undercover cop, of trying to cheat medicinal users into incriminating themselves.  I was astonished at the divisiveness, backstabbing and bitterness within the cannabis community.  I was accused of making money out of it and exploitation – ridiculous ideas to anyone with an ounce of common sense

You will know the rest.  It got even worse.  A Peter Reynolds “hate site” was set up by a psychotic breakaway from UK420 which made a series of completely ludicrous and false allegations about me.  Everything I had ever said about myself was untrue, apparently.  I was said to be a fascist, a Jew hater, a racist, etc, etc, etc.

I published evidence of my previous work and the trolls and numpties faded away – but not completely.  Even in quite close proximity, some who you might expect to be supportive of the progress we have achieved recently, have grumbled and groaned and suggested that I have not been truthful about my record in the cannabis campaign.  Those who prefer to look backwards rather than forwards continue to quibble.

Last week my ex-wife cleared out her loft.  My sons salvaged a copy of the report I submitted to the Home Affairs committee nearly 30 years ago.  It was in 1983, not in 1978 as I had said previously –  which will probably bring yet  more accusations!

So here it is, printed on a daisy wheel printer, with finger marks and smudges intact.  It’s amazing really because this was written even before the discovery of the endocannabinoid system and that is the only real difference in the argument I presented then from what I would say today.

  3. Anyone who has met you and worked with you knows your motives are nothing but good.

My only criticism of you is you keep giving me more and more work to do for CLEAR. Bloody slave driver!

  6. Good stuff – I never heard of the Egyptian connection before although I know the marihuana laws in the States can similarly be traced to blatantly racist motives. I suspect that the vehemence with which cannabis users have been persecuted suggests there’s a great deal more going on than that though; I think the Peter Hitchenses of this world grasp a fact that eludes saner, gentler minds: that The War On Drugs is a religious war.

“Conjectural relevance” is the most gloriously pretentious way possible of saying “I’m making this shit up.”

I looked for “endocannabinoid system” on wikipedia and that was way way above my head, do you have the dumbed-down version of what this is and what it means for your argument?

A thought: if The War On Drugs were ended, wouldn’t its victims – all those who’ve been fined, who’ve been imprisoned – straight away rush to find a lawyer to seek damages? Could this be one reason why the authorities refuse to admit they’re wrong?

  9. Peter i admire the work that you are doing for the cannabis community but what is your thoughts on gw pharma??

Are they an obstacle for the average medicinal/recreational smoker/grower in the uk?

Do you agree with the price of sativex and do you agree with the patents and unsuccesful attempts at patenting cannabinoids by gw pharma.

The home office is NOT going to grant the normal uk citizan a liscence to consume/grow cannabis that would go against gw pharma who have not finished with there medicine and i repeat medicine

The mu opoid receptor acts in much the same way as cb receptors so much so that you can give someone more cannabinoids and less opiates and still have the samee medicinal value.

Opiates dont stop the pain in the body it goes to brain and changes the perception of pain. Whereass ibobrufon painkiller seeks out the pain and eliminates it wherever it is thats the difference in the two

They dont want you to know about the Endo Cannabinoid system and why some people need external cannabinoids just the exact same way as people need external opiates

In the case of cancer well cannabinoids stop nutrients given to the cancerous cell whereas morphene doesn`t stop nutrients that are supplying the cancerous cell thats the difference between the two

Its morally right to use cannabis as a medicine but lawfully wrong its a case of natural right vs social construct.

If you could please reply to this it would be appreciated i would like to hear your view on sativex and gw pharma!

    • GW Pharmaceuticials is pursuing a worldwide strategy to hijack the medicinal properties of the cannabis plant into forms that can be patented and marketed for profit. It is engaged in an orchestrated campaign against the medicinal use of any other type of cannabis apart from its own products.

I applaud it for bring cannabinoid therapy to market but because it has dishonestly secured a monopoly it is now an out of control monster behaving rather like a bank. It has to be stopped.

      • Thank you for the reply and you are spot on!!

I myself applaud them for working with cannabinoids for medicine but not to monoplolize.

It does have to be stopped but if you look at the amount of money that has been invested in the company then we know that they are going to have to at least make that back hence the price of sativex or is the price in comparrisson to the black market prices.

The home office must be asked if PHYTO CANNABINOIDS is MEDICINAL!. Gw phara has had enough time to say if it is and they are promoting them as grounbreaking medicine why not give them just a research liscence instead of a research and develop liscence.they are researching(wich could take 20 years) but at the same time trading it at a fortune

Much tax is getting paid on sativex if any!! Is it the sam skunk sorry i meant same skunk that gordon brown spoke of as being lethal that gw pharma got from hortapharm pmsl.

WE HAVE A PRIVATE COMPANY IN THE UK GROWING 3 TONS OF CANNBIS THATS BEING SOLD TO OTHER COUNTRYS WHO ALREADY HAVE A MEDICAL CANNABIS PROGRAM IN PLACE.

THE PEOPLE OF THE UK NEED TO STAND ND ASK WHERE THE FUCK IS OUR CANNABIS PROGRAM AND ASK THE HOME OFFICE IS CANNABIS MEDICINAL IF NOT GET GW PHARMA TO FUCK IF SO WTF IS HAPPENING PEOPLE ARE SUFFERRING!!

I`M NOT GOING TO WAIT TO GW PHARMA CREATES AN ANTI CONVULSANT WHICH COULD TAKE YEARS AND COST A FORTUNE AND I AINT GONNA RUIN MY LIVER WITH THE PHARMA DRUGS WITH VERY BAD SIDE EFFECTS MY ENDOS NEED PHYTOS

A wee rant but full of info.

Where does eu law stand in the uk as regards cannabis are we an eu citizen or not??
