Aberfan. 60 Years Later.

I had just turned nine at the time of the Aberfan disaster. I was living in Olton, Solihull with my three younger brothers and my parents, both of whom were born and lived in South Wales until their early twenties.
My memory is not of my reaction but of my parents’ profound shock and grief. It was their childhood friends and neighbours that were involved.
That memory is seared, deep within me, based on the personal toll this tragedy took on my mum and dad. I pay due respect to those who lost their lives, the heroes involved in the rescue efforts, those who have worked to overcome the aftermath and ensure it never happens again.
