Legalization Oregon

Overnight, voters in Alaska, Oregon and Washington DC have voted to legalise cannabis for recreational use.

legalize dcThe US island territory of Guam approved a ballot to legalise medicinal cannabis  and Florida also voted for medicinal cannabis by 58% but it failed as a 60% vote is required. All over the US, smaller jurisdictions, counties, cities and towns, have also passed legislation on medicinal cannabis and decrimnalisation.

Last week in Britain we saw the shameful spectacle of just 21 MPs turning up to debate drugs policy for the first time in a generation.  David Cameron, Theresa May and the Westminster elite are arrogant, out of touch and detached both from scientific evidence and public opinion.

Authoritarian, Illiberal, Out Of Touch.

Authoritarian, Illiberal, Out Of Touch.

Nothing can excuse this failure of our democracy.  Britain is a laughing stock both in Europe and to the Americans.  We are regressing into a caricature of Dickensian history.  Little more than an ‘Old Curiosity Shoppe’ for tourists and the nostalgic.  Our government is concerned only with vested interests, politicians  lining their own pockets and an increasingly authoritarian and illiberal regime. These developments are humiliating for all those who cherish what was once Great Britain.  Surely, even those unconcerned or opposed to cannabis legalisation, must begin to realise that Westminster is destroying our country from within. On this,  the anniversary of Guy Fawkes’ failed attempt to blow up Parliament, who can doubt that he had the right idea?

Extremist Attack On Freedom Renders Cameron And May Unfit To Be Ministers Of The Crown.

Even before Theresa May delivers another speech of hatred, prejudice and bile at the Tory Party conference, the dreadful news is out.  Cameron himself has trailed it and blatantly, unashamedly, these two oppressors of British democracy plan to restrict our freedom of speech and thought in a way never before contemplated.

Cameron explicitly states that it is not just about committing or inciting violence, it is about holding “extremist views”.  All that the Home Secretary has to have is “reasonable suspicion” that people hold views she does not agree with or dislikes and she may lock them up.

This must be stopped. It is the greatest ever betrayal of the British people and Cameron and May have demonstrated conclusively that they are not fit to be in government.  They are hoist on their own petard for their ideas are as extremist as any other and if such legislation is introduced, they should be the first to be arrested and charged

The Disaster That Is UK Drugs Policy.

with one comment

cocaine-n-marijuana

The more harmful, dangerous and addictive a drug is the more important that its availability should be legally regulated, otherwise, inevitably, a criminal market is created with massive consequential health and social harms.

In the UK, before the Misuse of Drugs Act was introduced in 1971, we had around 3,000 problematic drug users. We now have 350,000. Yet successive governments carry on in the same direction.

The vested interests of Big Booze have been supported and encouraged by weak politicians, leading to lighter and lighter regulation of the most dangerous drug of all. Meanwhile, relatively harmless and beneficial substances like cannabis have been abandoned to street dealers and organised crime, blighting communities and involving children in both dealing and use – just as happened with alcohol prohibition in the US.

All the evidence is before us and the most effective policies for reducing harm from drugs are very clear. What we need to do is sweep aside outdated, out of touch organisations like the Home Office and dinosaurs like the present Home Secretary, Theresa May.  Yet since 1971, there have been a few intelligent and progressive ministers in the Home Office. Surely it is the irresponsible and obstinate influence of senior civil servants that has prevented governments from moving forward with reform?

Drugs policy must be based on evidence, not pressure from tabloid newspapers, the alcohol industry, scared and ignorant politicians and self-serving civil servants and quangos.

Parliament is now obligated to debate Caroline Lucas’ e-petition formally to evaluate the effectiveness of current policy. We must move rapidly and radically thereafter towards a solution that will work and put aside the idiocy of the last 43 years.

Posh Boy Chav Dave And The ‘Effing Tories’.

Yesterday, on his ill judged, flying visit to Scotland, Cameron shed crocodile tears in panic about his destruction of the United Kingdom.  He demeaned his office still further by using a thinly disguised obscenity, an appalling and shameful misjudgement.  This fool is supposed to be the prime minster of our nation.

The truth about Dave and his cronies and their selfish, arrogant, disconnect from the majority of Britons is exemplified in the trashy new movie ‘The Riot Club’.  It’s the Bullingdon Club of course, a depraved gang of posh yobboes who take alcohol, cannabis and cocaine to excess, smash up restaurants, abuse women and then sort it out by peeling a few fifties off Daddy’s wad. Key players: David Cameron, George Osborne, Boris Johnson plus assorted bankers and city conmen.  The Independent sets out the roll of dishonour here.

This is why I and millions of others, previously confirmed Tory voters, will never again vote for what has become the Bullingdon Club Party.  This is why Scotland should do the wise thing and skedaddle away from the UK ship that is sinking under the weight of corruption, cruelty and incompetence.  Any government that is so far out of touch deserves to be brought down.  That power now resides in the hands of people like Cameron, Osborne, Iain Duncan Smith, Theresa May and Chris Grayling should be all the warning we need.

UK Police Are Useless.

Gangs of men pass 11 year old girls amongst them to use as sex slaves.  Despite multiple appeals from their families the police do nothing.

A family chooses to take their sick child away from overbearing and bullying doctors to try an alternative treatment in Spain. The police launch an wildly irresponsible international man hunt and arrest the parents.

There must be consequences for the idiotic police officers in both cases, for their commanding officers and for the incompetent harridan at the top, Theresa May.

I’d also like to see the family compensated for their trauma and abuse at the hands of both Southampton Hospital and Hampshire Police.

Snooper’s Charter. This Is Why Americans Keep Their Guns.

with 2 comments

“You can have my guns when you take them from my cold, dead hands.”

“You can have my guns when you take them from my cold, dead hands.”

Nick Clegg has caved in again.  Norman Baker sat next to the most monstrous woman in British politics as she sneaked her snide subversion of our freedom through parliament. These people are ‘Liberal Democrats’?

It is all decided.  There is nothing we can do.  Parliament adjourns in less than a fortnight.  There’s little your MP could do for you anyway, even if he or she had the balls to stand up against this railroading of fundamental changes to our rights.  The leadership of the main parties have conspired to pervert our democracy to their own ends. In America they would be put on trial for treason.  This is why Americans keep their guns. It is some protection against an overbearing state.

Meanwhile, in London, Boris Johnson’s water cannons have arrived. Julian Assange is still holed up in the Ecuador embassy. Edward Snowden, the great American hero is running for his life in Russia.

Bring the Guillotines To Parliament Square!

Bring the Guillotines To Parliament Square!

At least America has a constitution. British democracy is a sick joke. We have no control over our government.  Elections are meaningless.  Politicians are a self-serving, incestuous elite, part of the tripartite oligarchy with the Fleet Street Mafia and the bankers.  We are the servants of the state.  We can’t even determine the issues that the media and parliament consider.  Their agenda and priorities are imposed on us.  We can’t enact local medicinal cannabis laws as 23 states have in the US, where the people have instructed the government what to do.  We can’t define the debate on education, the health service or foreign policy.  We must just do what we’re told.

We let these people take our guns away from us – and we were foolish to do so.  After the water cannons, what comes next?

Subject: Britain descends into a police state, liberty is extinguished, goverment is corrupt and self-serving.

Dear Mr Drax,

Theresa May is a monster. The coalition government conspires with the opposition to deprive us of our few remaining liberties. Files on Westminster paedophiles and illegal rendition via Diegio Garcia are mysteriously “lost”. The UK government and its propaganda mouthpiece, the BBC, flagrantly defies 65 UN resolutions and supports the Israeli genocide of Palestine.

Do you even begin to realise the contempt that you self-serving and corrupt bunch of criminals are held in?

Time to roll out the guillotines in Parliament Square.

Any MP with a shred of honour would resign from this disgraced House of Corruption.

Yours sincerely,

Peter Reynolds

Legal Highs Banned At UK Festivals. So Stick To The Safe Stuff: Cannabis, Ecstasy And LSD.

The Madness Of Queen Theresa Is Killing The British People.

The Madness Of Queen Theresa Is Killing The British People.

The madness of Queen Theresa is killing the British people.

She presides over a government that has succeeded in making alcohol stronger and more easily available, leading to the highest rate of liver disease in the world.

"I command thee! Stop smoking pot"

“I command thee! Stop smoking pot”

She sides with King Canute’s advisors in believing she can hold back the tide of demand for cannabis and ecstasy, drugs that are safely consumed by millions.  Her deranged efforts to ‘ban them, ban them, ban them’ have led to the rise in ‘legal highs‘, far more dangerous, untested, unpredictable, sold at enormous profit without any control at all.

800px-Spice_drugNow she’s desperately trying to shut the stable door that she opened .  According to her bible, The Daily Mail,  “More than 20 UK music festivals have banned the sale of ‘legal highs’ at their events this summer”.

The only sensible advice if you’re going to a festival this year is beer and wine in moderation but stick to the safe stuff.  Cannabis has never killed anyone, neither has LSD.  About 25 deaths have been attributed to ‘E’ but that’s with about 500,000 doses taken every weekend for 30 years.

So roll a spliff (tobacco free), maybe pop a pill or two.  Stay safe.

Yet More Madness In UK Drugs Policy

with 5 comments

The Right Dishonourable Theresa May MP

The Right Dishonourable Theresa May MP

Theresa May really does take the biscuit for ignoring evidence and basing her policies on prejudice and vested interests.  She defines its arrogance and exemplifies how out of touch our government is, particularly on drugs policy.

Khat, according to the experts, the ACMD, a pretty harmless, gentle stimulant, is to be banned. See the BBC report here.

The ACMD recommended exactly the opposite so it really should have expected Ms May to be contrary.  That’s what home secretaries do when they receive expert advice – they don’t just ignore it, they head in exactly the opposite direction.

Presently, 90,000 people in the UK are said to use khat, so Ms May has decided to turn them all into criminals overnight.  Does she expect they will all stop using it?  Don’t be ridiculous. All she has done is created a new criminal market.  Now we can expect violence, human trafficking and organised crime to get involved. As if our police and the Border Agency don’t have enough on their hands.

Her pretext is terrorism.  That’s the same excuse she offers for wanting to snoop on all our emails and internet activity.  It’s the same excuse this tawdry gang of thieves in Westminster offers us for anything they don’t want to explain.

Every day that passes our government proves itself to be more corrupt and more unfit for purpose.  This stupid, stupid woman is a terrible liability to our country.  Build more prisons, I say.  Let’s install a special wing of padded cells and move the whole cabinet in.

I will not be ruled by these fools anymore.

I Gladly Accept The Title Of Cannabis Zealot

with 4 comments

Last August, I complained about the conduct of Yvonne Davies, a Manchester magistrate.  This week, remarkably, the regulatory process worked.  She was reprimanded and, as a result, chose to resign. This was the correct decision.  It is impossible for someone with such an extremist opinion to judge anyone else.  She is an anti-cannabis crusader and no magistrate can properly take that position.

The Manchester Evening News led the reporting which was quickly picked up by the Daily Mail and the Daily Telegraph.  I telephoned the Manchester newspaper to protest that they had merely used the opportunity to re-publish all Ms Davies’ hysterical scaremongering.  I’ll be honest.  I was concerned the whole thing was starting to backfire, just giving more publicity to Ms Davies’ false and misleading claims.

Some cocky junior Mancunian journalist sneered so hard down the phone at me that I could feel it.  When I explained about the endocannabinoid system and the neuroprotective qualities of cannabis he turned into a particularly ignorant and stroppy Gallagher brother and I realised there was no point.  I wrote a letter to the editor for publication instead.

I also wrote a letter for publication to the  Daily Telegraph.

Then, Tuesday afternoon, I was enjoying a brief glimpse of sunshine outside my friends pub, The Falcon, in Queen’s Park, west London.  My phone rang.  It was the Daily Mail and I chatted away with Nazia Parveen, the journalist, for a good fifteen minutes.  The result you see below in print and the online version is here.

The Daily Mail 26th June 2013. CLICK TO ENLARGE.

Trust the Mail to try and twist the story into something it isn’t.  I wish I had the power to force a few people to quit.  I’d start with Theresa May, move on to Jeremy Browne and rattle through Cameron, Osborne, Paul Dacre, Kathy Gyngell, Melanie Philips and by the time I got to the judiciary there’d be plenty more senior than Ms Davies with much greater reason to go (see here for a few examples).

A ‘cannabis zealot’ I am.  Just as the 1st century Jewish sect who fought against the Romans, I will stand every time, in the face of whatever odds, use whatever means, to tell the truth about cannabis. It is an immense gift on our planet in so very many ways – which is exactly why it is demonised, why it is only its harms that are discussed and never its benefits.

Yes.  I gladly accept the title.  A ‘Cannabis Zealot’ am I.
