Overpaid, Overperked And Overcome With Vanity

You Used To Be Sexy!

The BA cabin crew staff need to wake up to reality and get back to work.

The conduct of Unite, of Tony Woodley and Derek Simpson is just completely unbelievable.  I cannot believe that two evidently intelligent men can seriously espouse the policies they are presenting.

Mad Or Bad?

I think the truth must be that this is an old fashioned, ultra left wing plot to “overthrow the capitalist system”, to in some way promote the left’s agenda as Gordon Brown leads Labour to inevitable, humiliating defeat.

I can understand the BA cabin crew staff being taken in by Unite’s idiotic stance because self-interest can blind us all to common sense.

The very idea that such ludicrous policies could prosper is ridiculous.  The truth is in the BA share price.  The cabin crew staff are overpaid, overperked and overcome with vanity if they see any future in their strike.

Get back to work now.

Fraud, Deceit And Death

For the second week running a member of the “Question Time” audience, the parent of a serving soldier, has complained that they have had to pay for equipment for their son or daughter to take to Afghanistan.

Our Brave Boys

There can be no greater condemnation of the funding of our troops than this.  In the face of doublespeak and accounting tricks from the government, this is a true insight into reality.

The deception that Gordon Brown is running about defence spending would not pass the most provincial test for petty fraud.  He must be recalled by Chilcot to explain himself.  He must be cross examined, as a hostile witness, as if he had stolen a credit card.

We learn this grubby and sordid truth about our prime minister while our boys bleed to death into the soil of a foreign land.

School Of Saatchi

Quality television is difficult to find.  Yes, though there are hundreds of channels available, most of it is rubbish.  Of course, what constitutes “rubbish” is a moving target.  It depends on mood, snobbery, fashion, tribe and all sorts of complicated human emotions.  It’s always perplexed me why it’s so “cool” to work in telly but so “uncool” to watch it!

“School Of Saatchi” is another formulaic “reality” competition but it’s fantastic.  (BBC2, Mondays 9.00pm) It’s hugely entertaining but also very educational.  You can empathise with each of the contestants even though each one is a real weirdy.  You can get excited about whether they’ll meet their deadline and what the public vote will be on their bizarre “art”.

It’s the “X Factor” where “X” equals modern art and the chance to exhibit at the Saatchi Gallery and get a studio free for three years. The characters are eccentric and divine darling, particulary the asian boy with the spiky hair and Eugenie, the gorgeous 19 year old minx who wore her waders from suspenders in the last episode when her sculpture had to be installed in a pond!

There are the experts of course with Tracey Emin playing Arlene from Strictly and Charles’ advisors playing Nick and Margaret from The Apprentice or Sarah and David from The Restaurant.  The USP though is Charles himself or, rather, his absence.  The famously “camera-shy” Charles, dare I suggest it, is bound to make an appearance in the final programme.

Of course, Saatchi & Saatchi is my alma mater so perhaps I’m biased but within its cliched formula this programme is a delight.  In fact, perhaps it’s because it’s structure is such a cliche that it can explain things that are almost beyond explanation and give us mere mortals an insight into the minds of modern artists.

Disgraceful Betrayal Of Gurkha Heroes

What shambolic, cowardly, civil servant-jobsworth, treacherous nonsense has come out of the Home Office today?

See here for the full story.gurkha

The disgusting conduct of Jacqui Smith’s department shames Britain and everyone of us who enjoys freedom won at the cost of Gurkha lives.  While she fritters away her expenses and her downtrodden, frustrated husband amuses himself with porn (who can blame him?), these brave, honourable men who have already won their case in the High Court have been knocked back again after months of unnecessary delay.

Not only is the decision itself a disgrace but the way it has been handled is an example of the very worst of Britain.  What are these fools in government up to?  They really have lost touch with the people and with reality.  Gordon’s YouTube cock-up on expenses – can you think of a more stupid idea? A budget based on fantasy, delusion and deceit.  Crass stupidity is too generous a description.  Gordon, Jacqui, Alistair, you are a laughing stock!  You have demonstrated your incompetence and lack of integrity again and again and again.  Please just go!
