“The Only Thing Drug Gangs Fear Is Legalisation”. The Independent 26th August 2010

with 2 comments

Superb piece in The Independent today

Superbly argued!  Thank you to Johann Hari.  Thank you to The Independent for giving the space for this to be heard.

Violence Breeds Violence.  The Only Thing Drug Gangs Fear Is Legalisation.

28,000 deaths in Mexico in four years because of drug laws!

It could be the same in the UK.   Our new drug strategy is in preparation but the only people applauding the disgraceful sham that is our drug strategy consultation are drug dealers and criminals.  James Brokenshire of the Home Office, the man intent on breaking British society,  is so backward in his thinking that he makes Alan Johnson look progressive.   He is blind to the evidence and the facts, to what is happening in Mexico and elsewhere

There is blood on the hands of cowardly politicians in the UK too.  They have shirked this issue, avoided grasping this nettle for too long.  Brokenshire can only have been offered as a lamb for sacrifice here – surely?  His arguments are too ridiculous, his distortion of science too crass. He is bound to fail if he persists but he will cause death, misery and degradation for thousands.  He personally will be responsible for a massive increase in street crime – inevitable if he tightens prohibition.  He will not have committed the crimes himself but he will have negligently and recklessly ignored proven current best practice.  His attitudes fly in the face of all logic, research and science.

The government is riding roughshod over the massive outcry for drug law reform on the Your Freedom website.  Surely, even if public opinion, morality, logic, science, history or common sense won’t convince them, Baroness Meacher’s claim of £19 billion per annum of waste will stir them to action!

Surely, if nothing else, the cash will make the government see sense!

It’s Not Drugs, It’s Drug Laws That Killed the Bradford Girls

with one comment

Forced Here By The Law

If heroin was legally available on prescription the three Bradford prostitutes would be alive today.  It is our discredited, ludicrous policy of prohibition that has led these women to their terrible deaths.  Cowardly, self-serving politicians who will not address the real issues about drugs policy have blood on their hands.

Today we also learned that the sensationalist, exploitative treatment of the death of two young men in Humberside “linked with mephedrone” was nothing but hysteria.  See the story here.  Humberside Police shares responsiblity with the media for leaping on a bandwagon, seeking kudos or some unknown advantage through lies, propaganda and misinformation.  Trying to look tough.

It’s not a good idea to use heroin or mephedrone but criminalising users and creating a lucrative black market for criminals to exploit is an absurd idea.  It’s exactly what America did with alcohol in the prohibition era when, in fact, it created organised crime.

Created By The Law

For those who become addicted to illegal drugs there is very little help available.  Almost all street crime is related to feeding a drug habit.  If, instead of the unwinnable “war on drugs” we put our money into a regulated supply and treatment facilities we would massively reduce the harm that current laws cause.

The girls in Bradford, the poor people of Jamaica, our young heroes who are dying in Afghanistan, the young man who is selling his body right this minute in Manchester, Baltimore, Hamburg or Singapore, the downtrodden people of Columbia.  They are all victims of our absurd, self-defeating drug laws.  When will our politicians and leaders stop chasing cheap political points (and expensive bribes) and face the facts?

Fighting For The Law

Legalise, regulate, tax – you pull the rug from under organised crime, you eliminate the need for most street crime, you have the resources to address the issue as a public health problem.

Transform Drug Policy Foundation has the answer.

The Sharon Shoosmith Affair

No one emerges with any credit from this sad tale of the way that we all failed Baby Peter.

The Buck Stops Here

Why can’t Ms Shoosmith accept that as Director of Childrens Services for Haringey she MUST take responsibility for her department’s appalling failure to protect the child?  No one is saying that she is personally culpable for his death.  Management is all about achieving results through other people and in this case she manifestly failed.

Ed Balls is one of the seedier and more slippery of Gordon’s cronies.  You can see him looking sideways in everything he does, watching his back, ducking and diving to avoid any come backs, looking for any opportunity to take credit or blame someone else.   Anything that he or his wife, Yvette, are involved in becomes a horrible curdled mess.  It comes from mixing too much oil, slime, and vinegar .  I can sympathise with Ms Shoosmith about having a boss who is so cowardly, two faced and disloyal.

Creeps

It’s time to move on.  Both of these individuals are history.  Somehow, we must find a way to protect vulnerable children effectively.

Smellie Not Guilty Verdict Stinks

with 14 comments

No!  No!  No!  I do not believe it!  This has to be one of the greatest travesties of justice ever inflicted on the British people.  Sergeant Delroy Smellie who beat Nicola Fisher with the back of his hand and his baton at the G20 protest has been acquitted of assault.  This is an outrage, a bad and sad day for Britain.  The man is a bully, a brute and a liar.  He is a violent criminal who should go to jail for at least two years.

Thug

We all saw it, in full colour on our television screens.  The man is an unmitigated thug.   There can be no doubt in the mind of any reasonable person.  The video evidence is entirely conclusive.  The excuses put forward in his defence are manifest nonsense.  District Judge Daphne Wickham who made this disgraceful decision is either corrupt or dumb.  Her ruling flies in the face of common sense, reason and fairness.  Her comments as detailed here are absurd.  We should not stand for this.  There should be protest on the streets, questions in the House and an immediate appeal against the verdict.

Bad Apple

So, on the same day that guilty verdicts were delivered in the first trial without a jury for 350 years, we see the true colours of our increasingly cowardly and politically controlled judicial system.  British justice is a laughing stock.  It has no value any more, at all.

All the decent and honourable police officers out there must realise that this decision damages them beyond repair.  Who will stand up for justice now?  Who can we trust?

So are we supposed to be surprised that Gordon Brown is still clinging by his fingernails to the architrave at the door of number 10?  They couldn’t organise a piss-up in a brewery, an orgy in an whorehouse or a coup in the Labour Party.  Why?  Because they all have nothing  but their own interests at heart.  Their last year in office, their pensions, their resettlement grants.  These are not men.  They are manipulative, morally microscopic mice.

Phwooaar! Gerrumorrf darlin'!

Phwooaar! Gerrumorrf darlin'!

Plod PR, the go-getting communications agency, wholly owned by the police with exclusively the police as clients summoned all its collective intelligence and wisdom to determine that last Friday, the day after the European and local elections would be a busy news day, a perfect occasion to bury their cowardly, disgraceful announcement that MPs will not be prosecuted.

In fact, the expenses scandal has now morphed into an excuse for poor performance in the elections.  This is a triumph of misinformation over truth.  Over the weekend, we were asked to sympathise over the “assault on MPs about their expenses”.  If what has happened has constitued assault then my feeling is that it’s time for some GBH with intent.

Everything has now been re-geared to enable them all to get away with it.  Perhaps even more worrying is that this marks a new development in the politicisation of the police.  Increasingly the police are being used to support and enforce the whim of government,  irrespective of the law or justice.

The Taxpayers’ Alliance is still chasing down MPs (see here) but what has happened to the Telegraph?  Have they had a visit in the middle of the night from the police or have big, fat, brown envelopes been distributed around Telegraph Towers – or both?

Disgraceful Betrayal Of Gurkha Heroes

What shambolic, cowardly, civil servant-jobsworth, treacherous nonsense has come out of the Home Office today?

See here for the full story.gurkha

The disgusting conduct of Jacqui Smith’s department shames Britain and everyone of us who enjoys freedom won at the cost of Gurkha lives.  While she fritters away her expenses and her downtrodden, frustrated husband amuses himself with porn (who can blame him?), these brave, honourable men who have already won their case in the High Court have been knocked back again after months of unnecessary delay.

Not only is the decision itself a disgrace but the way it has been handled is an example of the very worst of Britain.  What are these fools in government up to?  They really have lost touch with the people and with reality.  Gordon’s YouTube cock-up on expenses – can you think of a more stupid idea? A budget based on fantasy, delusion and deceit.  Crass stupidity is too generous a description.  Gordon, Jacqui, Alistair, you are a laughing stock!  You have demonstrated your incompetence and lack of integrity again and again and again.  Please just go!
